Your jewelry from Dazzling Little Gems is more than just an everyday jewelry piece, they’re your memories. Preserve your memories by ensuring the longevity of your jewelry with these basic care tips.

Gemstone Jewelry:

Semi-precious gemstones may have high resistance but they are not indestructible. To maintain the beauty and shine of your gemstone jewelry, follow these basic tips…

  • Store and protect your gemstone jewelry in a clean dry place such as a jewelry box. A simple plastic bags can be a great option as well.
  • Try to store your beaded necklaces or bracelets flat to avoid tangling or damage.
  • Generally, jewelry should only be put on after washing/applying any makeup, hairspray, gels, lotions or perfume.
  • Keep away from extreme temperatures and over-exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Try not to wear your gemstone jewelry while swimming or showering.
  • To clean your jewelry, in most cases, all you need is a clean soft cloth, like a chamois. Can be cleaned with a mild detergent, warm water, and a soft toothbrush. Avoid scrubbing too hard as you may scratch the stone. Rinse the stone and dry gently with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Stainless Steel Jewelry:

Our stainless steel jewelry are hypoallergenic, is durable and resists corrosion and oxidation, and can last a lifetime. Stainless steel jewelry is great for sensitive skin and will not rust or tarnish, or turn your skin green, even if worn daily. Like many other metals, stainless steel can get scratched and lose it’s lustre, therefore becoming dull. However, with these following tips, you can maintain it’s beauty and lustre…

  • Clean with a bit of mild detergent and warm water to clean off any pollutants and grime.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals like bleach and chlorine as they can damage the surface of stainless steel, therefore, we recommend you remove your jewelry before cleaning or swimming in chlorinated pools.
  • Store your stainless steel jewelry separately away from other sharp objects to avoid scratches, preferably in a fabric lined box or a cloth pouch.
  • For plated stainless steel jewelry, avoid perfume and any other strong chemical products.
  • Natural acidity of the body can alter the plating of your jewelry.
  • Avoid rough handling and shocks as well.

Note: You may notice fading of your plated stainless steel jewelry over time, keep in mind that the original color of stainless steel is silver, however, with proper care, you can extend the life of your plated jewelry and maintain it’s lustre.

Baking soda and water mixture: Mix two parts baking soda to one part water to make a paste, then gently rub the mixture onto the jewelry or components, can also use a soft bristled toothbrush, gently. Let the paste dry completely to remove the tarnish. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth or microfibre towel.

  • Remove before cleaning, showering or swimming.
  • Avoid direct sunlight.

  • Put on after using lotions, makeups, hairspray or perfumes.
  • Gently wipe your gold filled jewelry after each wear with a soft polishing cloth to remove any dirt or debris to help maintain it’s lustre. You may also soak it for a few minutes in warm, soapy water and dry it with a soft cloth as needed (or soft toothbrush to clean small crack and crevices).

Stretch Jewelry

We want you to get the most out of your crystal jewelry, so here are some simple tips on how to take care of it and make the elastic last longer.

  • Avoid wearing your stretch jewelry in the ocean or swimming pools, as the salt water and chlorine can cause damage.
  • Roll your stretch jewelry on and off to avoid over stretching and breakage.
  • Do not wear constantly, exposure to chemicals can cause elastic to snap over time.
  • Put on after using lotions, makeups, hairspray or perfumes.
  • Remove jewelry before activities that could cause snagging, like playing with pets, cleaning, exercise, etc.
  • Avoid wearing in the shower as the soap can make them dull and wear away elastic.
  • Clean with a microfibre cloth to wipe off any oils, dust or dirt that may accumulate while you are wearing it. You can use a damp cloth, but do not use any soap or cleaning chemicals.
  • Keep your jewelry stored out of direct sunlight while you are not wearing them as direct sunlight can cause crystals to fade. Some crystals, like rose quartz and amethyst, fade when left in the sun too long.

Macrame/Friendship Bracelets

For macrame friendship bracelets, fill a bowl with lukewarm water. Mix a teaspoon of gentle soap with the water until dissolved. Place the friendship bracelet in the water and let soak for one minute. Gently rub the bracelet while it is in the water to remove any stains. Remove the bracelet and rinse under a tap to remove soap.

  • Our macrame bracelets made with stainless steel can get wet, and may be worn at the beach and swimming without fading or tarnishing. NOT RECOMMENDED WITH SEMI-PRECIOUS GEMSTONES.
  • Not recommended in chlorinated pools as we have not tested the affects of chlorine on our macrame bracelets yet. Avoid contact with cleaning products as the chemicals may cause color to fade.
